The ground floor is occupied by a man, for sure, judging from the massive flat screen TV (what is it about flat screens nowadays? Do people really need to see that much detail?), X-Box and Wii lying around the living room, Sean Connery DVDs next to Harry Potter, and ew.. old pizza boxes. I hear muffling sounds from the other room and float directly through the wall, into the master bedroom.

There stands a tall, lanky guy, with messy spiky short blond hair and boyish good looks. His skin is well tanned not from conscious efforts of basking in the sun but hours of outdoor basketball games. He is on the phone, I wonder with whom. A girlfriend?

"OK Mother, I will visit you this weekend." he replies with a perplexed expression. "Yes, serious, I won't play basketball. Will go straight from the office on Friday. And stay until Sunday. OK? Is it good now?" He asks hopefully. A moment later his face shows a relief.

Uh oh, our man is a mama's boy. So unexpected from his big, tall posture and his age (I think he's in the mid 30s?). But I always have a thing for men who love his mother. He can be a lady killer out there, breaking every woman's heart, but deep inside he has one elderly woman whom he adores so much, all his life. It's just cute.

While our guy is busy talking with his beloved mother, I snoop around the room. There is a king size bed and a pair of night stands. On top of one night stand spread a couple of management books messily. Inside the night stand drawer there is a well read Bible next to a pack of condoms. He's a mama's boy and religious, this kind of man is just so rare these days. I like him even more (I try to ignore the condoms).
There is a picture on the wall, a 16 year old him holding proudly a certificate that says that he, Florian Mueller, is Germany's junior chess champion. Ooh, he's smart too. He is definitely my man.

When his mother is finally happy and content, Florian put down the phone and think carefully. So that's one weekend gone. Now he needs to find the right words to tell Anne that the date this Saturday will not happen.

Not that he likes Anne that much. They just met last week at Tapas, the Mexican Bar downtown, and it was more due to her enthusiasm than his that they finally agreed on a date. The date happened on the following day (also her suggestion) during which a non-memorable dinner along with uninteresting conversation happened. But then it led to sex, so he didn't mind. They did it on the very king size bed in this very room, during which Anne kept screaming dramatically and wanting to kiss him all the time. In the morning he needed to run to his management meeting, so he rushed her out a little. She's unhappy, but managed to pin him down for another day this Saturday. What a man to do? Weekly sex is not bad at all.

But now the plan has to change. Mother misses him and wants him to come visit. His mother lives alone in his childhood house in Cologne as his father passed away from accident 10 years ago. And he is the only child. He just can't deny his mother attention for anything in the world. Sex has to wait this time.

He's flipping his cordless phone with his long fingers, contemplating what to say to Anne. He hates facing female hysteria, and Anne seems to be the emotional type. Women, they demand emancipation but go mental at slight diversion of attention. He never knows what to do with them.

Ah, it's 20:14. Tagesschau, his favorite news program is showing. He sprints to the living room and turns on the TV, then flops down on his fluffy couch and takes a half eaten piece from one of the old pizza boxes. Anne can wait.
